DESERT AND MOUNTAINS

by Larry Goldberg

Magnificent desert
Dry source of all that flows
To bear the fruit of solitude.
You could not fool me.

O sacrament of purification
Silence of myriad extinguished lives
I lingered only to rest, refine, energize
My frantic but devoted life.

Scorched, but refreshed
I dance on mountain tops
And celebrate the life
You appear to abandon.
